China is the world’s second-largest economy, and while other regions might be facing up to economic challenges, China continues on an upward trajectory. Economies throughout the APAC region will dominate global growth in the coming year, and China will account for 30% of aggregate global growth in 2023 1 Refer to References at end of content. .

Telstra recognised China’s growing importance long ago: we’ve operated in the country since 1989 and built the relationships and partnerships that make us a unique telecoms service provider today. We’ve won awards for our data centre operations, MPLS, and SD-WAN offerings, and have become proud members of several major Chinese telecoms industry bodies.

We’re committed to our operations in China so that we’re able to give our customers the world-class products and services they expect from Telstra, underpinned by local-level support and expertise. Removing language barriers and working with our customers on their terms has always been important to us.

Over time we’ve built up a significant footprint in China. Telstra’s China headquarters is in the country’s technology hub, Shenzhen, and we have operations in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chongqing, Tianjin, Xi’an, Chengdu and Hangzhou. On top of that, we have 61 IPVPN points of presence (PoPs) in 39 cities, supported by our data centres in Chongqing, Tianjin, Shenzhen, Beijing and Shanghai, which all provide world-class colocation facilities.

Uniquely placed to deliver value

We have partnerships with China’s big three telcos, China Telecom, China Unicom and China Mobile, making us uniquely placed to give our customers choices that other providers can’t.

These partnerships form the foundation of our capabilities in China. Our IPVPN service covers all of China, extends globally outside the country, and features six classes of service plus SSL VPN access, 4G/5G APN and IPv6. Our dedicated internet access (DIA) offering includes three flavours, tailored for high-end large businesses, SMEs, and companies who collocate in our data centres. Our SD-WAN offering gives customers flexibility and agility, and our China cloud gateway gives customers access to single public clouds, multicloud, and SaaS.

We’ve invested in China because we want to give our customers the best choice of premium products and high-quality services underpinned by our international expertise, regional coverage, and local support throughout APAC. We understand China and its complex regulatory landscape, and we’re proud to be able to give our customers a trusted route into and out of China. China is predicted to become the world’s largest economy by 2050 and will make up 20% of the global GDP by that time. Enterprises that want to maximise the possibilities in China will need the right telecoms partner to accompany them on that journey.
