Telstra’s Global Media Network Upgraded to 100Gbps
Delivering high-performance media transport through Telstra’s full-stack of services— satellite, fibre, internet delivery, and 5G-enabled Telstra Dynamic Connect

Sydney – Telstra Broadcast Services (TBS) today announced a major milestone in its global media infrastructure: the Telstra Global Media Network (GMN) has been upgraded to support 100Gbps bandwidth, reinforcing Telstra’s position as a leader in live broadcast connectivity and media delivery.
Built in 2016, Telstra’s GMN is purpose-built for real-time media delivery and is one of the world’s largest media networks. With over 2,500 on-net endpoints spanning customer sites, venues, and stadiums from Asia to Europe and the Americas, the network supports a mix of fibre, satellite, internet, and cloud-based transport, offering flexible solutions for permanent services and occasional-use events.
The GMN upgrade follows Telstra’s strategic alliance with BT, which has expanded the network’s footprint and added over 40 new customer sites and 460 new services globally.
“This upgrade is more than just a technical achievement—it’s a strategic enabler for our customers,” said Karen Clark, CEO at TBS. “Whether it’s live sports, breaking news, or global entertainment, our network is built to deliver content reliably, securely, and at scale.”
Among its most impactful use cases is its role in powering major international events, such as world cups and grand slams, where reliability and scalability are essential for live sports broadcasting. GMN also integrates with satellite services to enable seamless contribution and distribution workflows in remote or infrastructure-limited regions, with the bundling of satellite services becoming an increasingly common requirement in RFIs and RFQs.
Additionally, the network supports the growing adoption of Telstra Dynamic Connect, which leverages 5G in Australia, and the Internet Delivery Network (IDN), which sees over a million hours of usage per annum, offering flexible, high-performance media transport as part of Telstra’s full-stack offering.
Beyond connectivity, Telstra offers 24/7 monitoring, real-time reporting, and broadcast operations support, ensuring that content reaches audiences with the highest quality and reliability.
‘‘While upgrading the GMN to 100Gbps is a major technical milestone, the real advantage lies in what it unlocks for our customers,” said Karen Clark, CEO at Telstra Broadcast Services. “They’re not just accessing faster speeds—they’re tapping into one of the world’s largest media networks, backed by deep broadcast expertise and the flexibility to stack satellite, fibre, internet, and 5G connectivity in ways that suit their unique production and delivery needs’’ said Clark.
Telstra’s investment in the GMN is part of a broader strategy to enable next-generation media workflows. With its recent upgrade to 100Gbps, the GMN empowers customers to harness advanced infrastructure for high-performance, scalable media delivery. This innovation reflects Telstra’s enduring commitment to a connected future and aligns with its Connected Future 30 strategy—driving transformation through technology, global reach, and customer-centric solutions.
