The ‘Broadbanding the Top End’ project is a $34 million joint venture between Telstra, the Northern Territory Government and Rio Tinto Alcan and has been achieved with valuable support from the Northern Land Council.
Telstra Country Wide’s (TCW) Group Managing Director Brett Riley believes that teamwork is a key factor to how celebrated this project has become.
“It has certainly been a cross-Telstra effort to deliver life-changing technology to this region of Australia.
“My thanks to the Enterprise & Government and TCW teams for their customer relationship management expertise and to the planners and network construction teams for getting the job done on the ground, with fibre crews working in 45 degrees celsius conditions over many months,” said Brett.
High-speed broadband is now being used to deliver services across this remote area, significantly improving access to education, health, justice and business services and contributing to regional growth.
Another major contributing factor to winning at this level is the innovative multi-party agreement approach the company takes to remote network investments.
“The TCW team will continue to develop business cases with all levels of government, large enterprises, and other organisations for network extensions where normal commercial investment is viewed as uneconomic,” said Brett.
