WWF is one of the largest environmental organisations in the world and campaigns to tackle climate change. Last year, WWF-UK launched the One in Five Challenge, to encourage large enterprises to cut their business flights by 20% which will also help them cut costs and their carbon emissions.
Needing to practise exactly what they preach whilst ensuring their employees can still communicate and collaborate effectively between their offices in Wales, Northern Ireland, Scotland and internationally, WWF-UK turned to Telstra International.
Telstra already supplies WWF with an IP VPN network across the UK and the two companies maintain a close working relationship – Telstra International recently chose WWF as its charitable partner.
With a highly resilient network already in place, WWF-UK selected Telstra to develop and implement a suitable video conferencing solution to meet the needs of the organisation.
Following its launch earlier this month, the service’s many benefits - in particular how it contributes to the reduction of carbon emissions - were presented by the Telstra team to WWF staff at Panda House HQ.
Plans are in place to get the absolute most out of the solution. An internal hierarchy of communications outlines the types of meetings that are best suited to video conferencing, helping WWF-UK workers to incorporate it into their everyday working routine.
‘We’re encouraging businesses to reduce company flying and explaining why it makes good business and environmental sense. Telstra’s video conferencing network is at the core of putting this strategy into action for us internally – the carbon savings from meeting ‘virtually’ rather than hopping on a plane to catch up are considerable,’ said David Southern, Head of IT and Facilities, WWF-UK.
